blog 23 post finial

1. Why did you take this class? - I wanted to get a taste for animation and decided to take both years I wanted a way to get into movie and video game making.

2. In general, what did you like most about this class? - I love the type of people that joined in they are not the complete jerks or I'm the cool guy and your the loser types, but a odd middle.

3. In general, what did you like least about this class? - Having to remember to do blogs and detailed critiques but that's the lazy side of me.

4. What was your most favorite project and why?- My favorite would be the movie mash up it allowed me to make something new from something professionally filmed and well known.

5. What was your least favorite project and why? - The independent study it was hard to come up with ideas and the contest available also were tough to think of something you could do your self.

6. Discuss the overall effectiveness of the instructor (for example: preparation, availability, interest, content knowledge, expectations, etc.). - Mama bears teachings are effective and her ability to explain a new topic makes things seem easy she shows great interest for all her cubs and isn't afraid to be too harsh to help us improve and cares for our success.

7. What are the most valuable things you learned in the class?- everything was valuable but some of the most is improving group work skills and showing us the basics for the field.

8. Do you feel that this class will help you achieve your future academic or career goals? How or why (or why not)? - I do feel that this class has helped me reach some goals while most don't have any or little experience with the programs I already know their workings and whats expected while others not in the class come mostly from the fine art point of view.

9. How could this class be improved? - The only thing I could think of is a introduction of class mates so everyone could be comfortable with each other and work with more than the group they make friends with.

10. Additional comments: More cookies could be involved preferably chocolate chip this is a great program and I couldn't think of doing any other class.

blog 22 post 3

From this article I learned that more cartoonists are moving to use their shows on youtube I learned that there are alot more issues and requirements to get something on TV but youtube is less effort to show something and it has a bigger viewer market youtube also allows cartoonists to experiment with different styles.

I can say though I do go on youtube for music videos mostly I watch TV more.

I agree that youtube is easier to get videos on and showing you don't have a guaranteed amount of views

Would their be more new shows on TV if it was less of a hassle to get them aired?

blog 22 post 2

I learned that people can memorize shapes subconsciously and make out and identify different forms I also learned that the character should match the environment they live in down to the movments they make as well as that we are getting closer to have a absolute perfect human look in games

For me the more pixilated somthing is thee less real it seems

I also agree that characters need to start matching where they come from and live better I could think of some games that dont do this

What would happen if we did get to the perfect look would anyone be able to tell whats real and what isnt?

blog 22 post 1

This week I didnt learn anything new

I dont know what I would like to learn I guess anything that could help me improve

Im happy that school is almost over

What futrates me is at the end of the year it seems teachers are pushing harder and harder more home work and more projects and test it just tires me out by the time exams come and I just want a break

I always wonder if plants think and know whats going on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2GWd2j3qJ8&feature=player_detailpage

blog 21 post 3

I learned that there are weird things they considered cliche like clowns I can see what they mean by a lot of videos being dark but there are also just as much happy ones silence is seen as cliche for a deep movie and family problems are cliche

I do see a lot of dark shorts but I see just as much upbeat heroic ones and he wants more?

How are clowns a cliche I never seen shorts with clowns

I agree that filmception is now cliche after the movie inception its every where.

blog 21 post 2

From this article I learned that Pixar is experimenting with non photo realistic animation I learned that a program could copy a painted like style that the artist draws and fills in the blank frames and possably be used to make full length films.

I think its interesting that they want to go back to the older type look to move forward

I beleive that they are at the ponit where they need to change how their movies look and this is a way to do that

Is going back to the "old" ways going to help that all thier movies look alike style wise?

blog 21 post 1

This week I haven't learned anything new I new game came out that I learned to play I also learned how to tank better in world of warcraft and that more car accidents are caused by distracted driving then drunk driving

This week I was happy that we had my cousins first birthday the cake and ice cream were amazing

This week I'm frustrated that the weekends don't feel long enough.

I want to learn how to drive a motorcycle

This was a great story really creepy I enjoyed it I think it would also make a good short movie if professionally done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEwbfnCpKA4&feature=player_detailpage

blog 20 post 3

I learned that even in a limited space you still can make a great studio I also learned that it could be inexpensive as well you could also improvise with different lights and use different types of cords to save space.

Lucky for me space isnt a problem yet but great ideas for later.

I never thought to use the different lights like that.

Why would you need so many different adaptors and cords?

blog 20 post 2

From this article I learned to try and simplify everything as much as possible keep your work open for crtique and ask other animators for help and look at what they did for scenes that worked.

Playing the scene in real time is what I would do anyway.

Color coding and using simple scenes could help me in my own work

What did he mean theres no right way to block?

blog 20 post 1

This week I learned how to use color correction in premiere to make filters for my clips and I learned how to put the technique we used for looking out a window to make it look like memories.

I would like to review on the different green screen functions

what made me happy this week is it was my fathers birthday and we went out to eat

What frustrated me is that when I warmed up left overs cheese melted to the styrofoam and I ate it without realizing it nothing tasted the same after that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX2qCpRxilM&feature=player_detailpage this was a funny April fools joke it would be great if they actually decided to add it.

blog 19 post 3

I learn that though we would like to compare our vision to a camera it just doesn't work a camera takes separate pictures while our eyes see it continually and the same goes for resolution because the way you see you eyes cant be measured in pixels. Even the world continues on after you stopped.

How close have we found to a genuine photographic memory?

all this information is alot to understand and I get that cameras can eventually out perform our own eyes.

I think it would be interesting as well to see a form of infinate fps and non frame rate recording

blog 19 post 2

I learned from this article that to make a better more imaginative animation you should put in something more different than our own culture I also learned that putting your own beliefs into can also enhance it with things like environmental condition and different ways of thinking.

What happens when no one likes it because of your ideals you put into it?

I think its interesting to think in this fashion what people think of the world and how can you use it to create a new one

Some of the pictures and video on the article look familar like I watched them already but I cant recall when

blog 19 post 1

This week I learned about more shots like multicam editing, fight scene I also learned our options for the indepentant project as well as the due date of the poem project I also learned that the final project is comming up.

I dont really know anything spacific that I want to learn, but Ill take in anything new

What frustrsted me this week is it feels like everything is going too fast.

The temperatures are what made me happy this week its getting warmer.

This is interesting to think about is this really how all of earths water got here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LpgBvEPozk&feature=player_detailpage

blog 18 post 3

I learned how to create a black background needing only simple materials I learned the tricky part to this is the lighting using low wattage lights could help bring out details in the subject

do we have the things to do this at school?

The backdrop part is simple but what confused me is where to put what lights

I would use this in my poem project if I could pull it off

blog 18 post 2

I learned from this article that because the personality type of a creative person is so complex and fits multiple personalities its hard to understand it I also learned that daydreaming is actually a very engaging process and that it takes a lot of brain power to think something up with distractions and I also learned that peoples brains work better at certain times and creative people tend to make their schedule around it.

Many of these traits fit me like being alone and daydreaming.

Cant anyone be creative do you have to have one of these traits?

My creative time is around 9pm or later when I'm trying to sleep I cant stop thinking about things

blog 18 post 1

This week I learned about different editing shots from our tutorials I also learned what we would be doing for up coming projects as well as that we now need to write movie critiques from now on and that we are also doing a different final project than last year

A thing that made me happy is this is my birthday weekend

somthing that frustrated me this week is that it feels like im doing school work all week long

This is great it made me laugh cause its all true and he shows it in a funny way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B61M60o5ts&feature=player_detailpage&list=UUpko_-a4wgz2u_DgDgd9fqA

blog 17 post 3

I learned that the voters in Hollywood to exactly nothing about animated movies they didn't mention what good was done like the angles or story most didn't vote because they didn't care and those that did only voted for the thing they knew and saw the voters didn't even watch the animated films.

Just wow their should be a qualification exam or something to be a voter.

Most that did vote were biased and the ones that didn't did not care.

How can Hollywood home of movies and video not know anything about animation?

blog 17 post 2

I learned that movies and gaming tools are coming together for some of the problems with movies like adding a massive amount of characters or creating a environment video games have already solved the problem video game tools were also adapted to make animated characters more real and that film making is very similar to making a video game

I think the statements are true games are starting to look like movies.

So if movie making and game design are the same a game designer could be a director.

why didn't film makers look at the way video games were produced before?

blog 17 post 1

This week I learned that pixilation is just stop motion with people instead of objects and I learned to keep extra batteries when filming in the cold as well as coming up with so many ideas for projects over time.

I would like to learn is how do film makers make such great movies and what they do to get where they are

Me and Harrison finished filming we just need to edit now so that's something good

A thing that frustrated me is that in world of warcraft I keep getting camped by horde

I thought this was really great super smooth and interesting but it is a bit drawn out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvIk4w3p-Qs&feature=player_detailpage

blog 16 post 3

I learned that if there's laughing on set its most likely not good and can be a distraction I also learned that if you don't go to far with a joke it might not be as great but if you go too far it wont click with the crowd also that you don't truly know if its going to work with a real audience till they see it I also learned that casting and the script are huge parts in a successful film.

How is laughing on set bad though it could be a distraction shouldn't mean its good?

I like how their are also comedic sentences in the article its self.

I think the information of his childhood is actually interesting especially how he tells it.

blog 16 post 2

I learned that with Lego texture you want more than just its reflective quality's you would also want the wear on it as well as how it disperses light. I also learned if you could see the real thing it could help make it digitally by seeing how it reacts to different conditions I also learned when somthing looks good and wasnt planned it would be okay to change it

I like what they said about textures if I added more little details it would look that much better.

I think no matter how many tips you get on lighting it will always be one of the hardest things to balence.

How would you manage putting the movie through all the different renders they used?

blog 16 post 1

This week I learned that I suck at strategy games and I learned a few things about the up and coming skills competition dress code where it is and the theme we have to do

What I want to learn is how to improve my work

Nothing made me mad this week the only thing I wish there was is warmer weather

This week what made me happy is that I got to watch a lot of movies

This is my favorite song by imagine dragons this video is great because its the same song x30 you'll be singing this all day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0kGDLzZ05E&feature=player_detailpage

blog 15 post 3

I learned to get a audience hooked try to make it interesting from the start and think of ways other thank a bunch of action scenes. Also try to present something new that's interesting engage the viewer and also work off of the persons mood and emotions I also learned to know your target audience know what they like something that's cool to kids may seem to childish for a older audience.

These are interesting views on how to get Someone hooked on something, but I already knew most of these things.

I really like the idea of using how person feels or thinks whats going to happen and then add a twist play them.

Playing on someones feelings may sound easy but its not is there anyway to make it easier?

blog 15 post 2

I learned that the lego movie is more 3D animation than stop motion it looks exactly what it seems they were aiming for I also learned that some guys from cloudy with a chance of meatballs worked on this film and the animmator for robot chicken also helped. Another cool thing that I learned is that this is the first time legos were used to make a full length movie as well as that that used some real lego sets and blocks not just animated ones.

If this wasnt for advertising legos did they have to work out some kind of different deal with the owners of lego?

I think its cool how the movie looks because it looks like all stopmotion but isnt.

I also think its neat that they had master builders on set to make anything from random blocks.

blog 15 post 1

This week I learned about different shots that require editing to make them look the way they do and I also learned to try and think of  different ways to tell a story.

I don't really have anything in mind that I want to learn come what may I guess.

Something that frustrated me this week is I cant get the wall cut to work and I didn't get time to start my movie mash up.

What made me happy this week is knowing that we have a week off.

Animals always make my day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8xiy1JZbNk&feature=player_detailpage

blog 14 post 3

I learned that Pete Travers made a lot of big movies in both CG and animated. I learned that the process is pretty much the same for both just that how the work is organized and carried out is different. I learned that the story cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 art look comes from a Czech children's story. The toughest parts about this movie were the little things and physics like making the strawberry have full range of expressions but not have the seeds move also the topping of the tocodile needed to go through a physics program to make it oozing.

I like how the little details are the biggest problems

I think that its cool that the idea for this came from a children's story.

How many different techniques were used in the entire film?

blog 14 post 2

I learned from this article that even quiet and a analytical person could be helpful in film making. I learned that they could help your film by taking notes on what they see or think on the film also tell what works and what wont. Those types of people are also good to keep things on time and even help create ideas for the film.I also learned that they could add a calming element to the team so it doesn't feel like that your running out of energy.

I think this is cool if all the facts are true most think they have to be artistic or creative to be in film.

If all these things are ture then I belive that  anyone one can be if film if they tried.

How did the film industry get this competive?

blog 14 post 1

this week I learned how to use different effects better in premiere and I also learned more about different editing like super speed and photo stops as well as using a door frame to cut to a different scene.

What I would like to re-learn is how to make a clip go faster or slow down time.

What made me happy this week is I got got to play warcraft again its been awhile and it was my aunts birthday.

What frustrated me this week is that because of the Tuesday exams were cancelled I now have to take it in June and change my schedule to fit in a class for it.

I stared to look at snowboarding videos because of the Olympics I found this to be cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5V7kD_HeMw&feature=player_detailpage.

blog 13 post 3

I learned that paramount was the first to completely stop using film and going all digital other studios were expected to be first as well as removing film from cinema was expected to take long and this sped it up now others might just fallow suit. also shipping is less costly from about 2000 dollars to only 100.

I like the idea of digital movies as long as there are little differences.

I thought film would always be used for movies this is a big shift.

Though digital films are cheaper to ship wont it cost more for tickets? equipment needs to be replaced.

blog 13 post 2

I learned that when making a animated sequence don't just make it look into it see if you could add something new. Look back a the story boards and art to see if you could add any of the motions in and also see if you could add on to them with something the director could like.

I liked the process he went through to look at thing and even film himself.

I think his way of video taping the motion you want and doing different takes of it helps.

Does he go through this every time or only when there is extra time?

blog 13 post 1

This week I learned more about lighting and how different things give off different colors of light like incandescent lights give orange light while natural outside lighting gives off a blue to white tone I also learned how three point lighting looks and what it is

I would like to learn how to do better green screen work.

A thing that made me happy this week is that I finished most my school work.

Nothing frustrated me this week every thing is going smooth.

I guess its time for me to head outside  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hmqguIFMC-Y

blog 12 post 3

I learned that many people don't know how to get into the film industry. Ways they could get a foot in the door is to try and get a intern position, get involved in mid to no budget films and small studios. You could also volunteer at film festivals. If your unsure about the path you want look into what the company or organization needs and see if it works for you be prepared to answer questions.

All these ways are good, but what if you cant find anything available do you just wait?

I think most people just need to get more involved with the studios and get known.

I think this article is all about getting prepared and doing your research.

blog 12 post 2

I learned that they used a lot of VFX for one episode of a TV show around 500 shots. They had good contact with the different departments to help make models and add to them to make it animated.

I think the article could've explained each technique they used.

I think the coolest shot is the one with the moving skulls.

How much time and work was put into each shot?

Friday, January 17, 2014

blog 12 post 1

This week I learned about lighting. Like how some lights have different colors ranging from orange to white then blue. I also learned about each light, key light, fill light and back light.

I don't know what I really want to learn I guess perhaps ways to make better green screen shots.

Nothing frustrated me just stressed from school work.

Im happy thats its a long weekend to bad I probably have to use it to finish my work.

I cant wait to see this movie I loved the books https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=PgJ_AL-3nB4

blog 11 post 3

I learned that the two ways modern cinematography are vastly different from each other. One way is on a set with actual lights and environment. The other way is to film on set with green or blue screen and then create everything digitally.

I think both of these ways should be in the same category of cinematography, but then split into sub categories of digital and physical.

I also think that it mostly depends on the skill of the teams and not the way it was created.

If the way does matter could splitting it into sub category help solve the issue? Then could there also be a overall category combining both ways?

blog 11 post 2

I learned that while looking for a team they weren't just looking for people how could story board well, but someone who could get the point across in a funny way. I also learned that they didn't think despicable me would be as big a hit it became. The teams biggest problem was getting original ideas that weren't cliché.

I think its interesting how they changed Gru's and his minions persona from scary evil to something funny.

I also think its interesting how they explained how fast it released because they all had the same idea and the same track on changing and adding to the film.

How did they make a successful movie thing it was just going to fail?

blog 11 post 1

This week I learned nothing really significant or new every things pretty much the same.

I want to learn more about how a idea becomes a big picture film.

This week my group finished filming which made me satisfied, there is a lot of editing ahead.

What frustrated me this week is I have so little time and a ton of work to do.

This article had some interesting things about taking photos during dawn and dusk.  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/find/newsLetter/Dusk.jsp
